Remember the child who used to stand in front of the mirror and make faces at him/herself?
It was great fun to “make-believe” and perform visual contortions to stretch the limits of muscular pretzels of interactions between eyes, tongue and bursting cheeks; or the imaginative stance of being the sheriff in town, eyes narrowing; or perhaps just seeing whether the twitches of a reflection can fool the reality of timeless childhood.
The mirror was an anomaly; you could never “fool” the reflection, and the inverted image was a mystery in and of itself, defying the concept of one’s left side, right side, up and down. But it was always assumed that once you re-appeared from the privacy of one’s reflection, you could again take on the visage of acting “normal”, and the faces we made would reassert the serious appearance expected by parents, neighbors, friends and community.
In real life, of course, there are those who are “double-faced”; people who put on a “good front” in one instance, but then will “spit in your face” if you don’t watch out.
The reflection of the child making faces in front of a mirror was merely innocence portrayed by imagination and pure fun; the deviancy of reality, however, is such that the sad truth of adults reflects the inner ugliness of too many in society, where empathy is an empty vessel, inversion of humanity remains an anomaly, and purity of thought rarely refracts from the inner soul of most. But that facial contortions would more publicly reflect the truth of our own feelings; human beings might come to understand one another better.
For Federal employees and U.S. Postal workers who suffer from an illness or disability such that the illness or disability prevents the Federal or Postal employee from performing one or more of the essential elements of one’s Federal or Postal job, filing for Federal Government Disability Retirement benefits through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management may become a necessity.
Just remember that, in dealing with one’s Human Resource Department, the mirror that reflects may not reveal the true face of those who appear to be helpful. There are many, many H.R. personnel who are there to help; but still others who appear to be one thing but in reality are quite another. Be discreet; seek counsel from an experienced attorney before confiding in the reflection of someone who, in the privacy of facial encounters, may have tested the limits of visual contortions by darkening the soul of eyes that became lost in the double-faced image of a backstabber.
Sincerely,
Robert R. McGill, Esquire
